Experience Durability with Shamrock Green ASA Prime

ASA filament (acrylonitrile styrene acrylate) is a thermoplastic 3D printing material that is perfect in many ways and is suitable for many different applications. It has a similar chemical makeup to ABS plastic but offers three notable improvements: better mechanical properties, it is naturally UV resistant, and it simply produces amazing finished prints. Coex 3D offers ASA in the same colors as our ABS giving you 11 colors to choose from and is available in both 1.75mm and 2.85mm diameters in varying spool sizes.

Although ASA can safely be printed using an open bed printer, it is still recommended to print ASA in an enclosed printer which will allow parts to cool slowly and uniformly which helps to prevent shrinkage and warping.

Coex 3D’s ASA products are made with 100% virgin resin and high-quality colorants with no added fillers.  All Coex 3D filament is made in our production facility in Green Bay, WI, USA using industrial-grade extruders and laser measuring quality control to ensure quality and consistency with every spool.

Looking for a high-performance 3D printing polymer that provides excellent UV stability and weather resistance? Look no further than Shamrock Green ASA Prime, the perfect choice for your 3D printing needs.

Our Shamrock Green ASA Prime is an Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA) polymer that is specifically formulated for 3D printing. It offers the ideal balance of mechanical strength, toughness, stiffness, and weather resistance that you can rely on for extended periods.

Shamrock Green ASA Prime is well-suited for outdoor and automotive applications thanks to its exceptional weather resistance and UV stability. Our ASA polymer is perfect for creating functional prototypes, end-use parts, and low-volume production runs.

If you are looking for a material that can withstand harsh weather conditions, retain its color and mechanical properties in direct sunlight, and provide long-lasting performance, then Shamrock Green ASA Prime is the right choice for you. With its easy-to-print characteristics and excellent layer adhesion, this ASA filament offers great value for money.

Get your hands on Shamrock Green ASA Prime today and experience the optimal balance of rigidity, toughness, UV resistance, and weather ability. Buy now and start creating durable, high-quality 3D prints that will last for years to come!

Recommended Print Settings

Coex 3D recommends the following print settings when printing with our ASA. Settings will vary depending on your specific printing setup.

  • Hotend Temperature: 245 °C - 265 °C (High Speed: 255 °C - 275 °C)
    • Important! This temperature range may seem hotter than you're used to for other ASA filaments. Using 100% virgin resin causes our ASA to require slightly higher printing temperatures.
  • Heated Bed Temperature: 80 °C - 100 °C
  • Recommended Build Surfaces/Adhesives
    • Glass Build Surface
    • PEI Build Surface
    • Magigoo
    • Painter's Tape
    • Glue Stick
    • ABS slurry
  • Cooling Fan: Recommended.
  • Enclosure: Recomended to prevent warping
  • Drying: ASA filament is hygroscopic and will absorb moisture from the air if not stored in a dry environment. If this happens, you may experience under-extrusion/inconsistent extrusion or excess stringing. You may also hear a "popping" sound coming from the hotend during printing. We recommend drying our ASA at 65 °C for at least 3 hours if it has been exposed to excess humidity.

Technical Printing Guide - COEX ASA Prime

1. Material Notes

  • Keep filament dry - store properly and dry before use
  • If needed, dry at 75°C for 3 hours or more
  • Enclosure is necessary
  • Use Z-offset slightly higher than PLA (+0.05mm)
  • Enable "Avoid crossing perimeters" to reduce stringing
  • Consider using the "Wipe while retract" option
  • Enable "Slow down for small perimeters."
  • Print outer walls slower for better quality
  • Use a minimum layer time of 30 seconds for small parts
  • Consider using "Extra Prime Amount" after retraction

2. Basic Parameters

Nozzle Layer Height Line Width Volumetric Speed Temperature
0.4mm 0.2mm 0.42mm 14.0 mm³/s 250°C
0.6mm 0.3mm 0.62mm 31.5 mm³/s 255°C
0.8mm 0.4mm 0.82mm 56.0 mm³/s 260°C
 1.0mm 0.5mm 1.02mm 87.5 mm³/s 265°C

3. Speed Settings

First Layer 30% 51.47 mm/s

4. Retraction Settings

IMPORTANT: Set travel speed to the maximum your machine allows (200-500mm/s). Faster movements reduce filament oozing time, minimizing stringing.

Nozzle Distance Speed Z-Hop
0.4mm 1.0-1.5mm 40mm/s 0.2mm
0.6mm 1.0-1.5mm 40mm/s 0.2mm
0.8mm 1.0-1.5mm 40mm/s 0.2mm
1.0mm 1.0-1.5mm 40mm/s 0.2mm

5. Temperature Settings

Bed Temperature: 80-100°C

  • Wash the bed often for good adhesion - Use dish soap and rinse thoroughly to remove oils
  • Use bed adhesion products if necessary (gluestick, WELD3D)
  • Use brim for tall or large prints
  • Keep the ambient temperature stable

Extruder Temperature: 245-265°C

6. Cooling Settings

Cooling Configuration:

    • First Layer: 0% (fan off)
    • General Printing: 100% base fan speed
    • Bridges and Overhangs: 100% fan speed
    • Layers < 15 seconds: 100% fan speed

7. Troubleshooting Guide

 Problem Solution
Irregular extrusion

1. Dry the filament

2. Check the extruder

3. Reduce speed

Poor adhesion

1. Dry the filament

2. Use adhesive

3. Adjust the first layer

PLEASE NOTE: These printing parameters are initial recommendations based on our experience. They may need adjustment depending on your specific 3D printer, environmental conditions, and the geometry of the part you are printing. Use these settings as a starting point and fine-tune them according to your specific needs.

Tolerance: At Coex 3D, we use multi axis laser measuring heads to ensure a tolerance of ±.03mm.
