The Ultimate Filament Drying Guide

The Ultimate Filament Drying Guide

Because your 3D printer deserves dry noodles — not soggy spaghetti.

If your prints have ever looked like they were sneezed into existence… or your nozzle suddenly sounded like it was making Rice Krispies (snap, crackle, pop!)… congratulations:
🎉 You’ve met Moisture, the Arch-Nemesis of Filament.

Lucky for you, defeating this villain is easy — and Coex3D already does half the battle before the spool even reaches your doorstep.

Let’s get into it.

🌊 Why Does Filament Even Absorb Moisture?

Because polymers are drama queens.
Leave them out for a few hours, and they’ll start soaking up humidity like they’re on a spa retreat.

Wet filament can cause:

  • Stringing that looks like your model grew spiderwebs
  • Brittle filament
  • Bubbles, pits, and surface zits
  • Layer adhesion that says, “You’re on your own, buddy.”

So yes — drying matters.

🏭 How Coex3D Saves Your Prints (Before You Even Open the Box)

At Coex3D, we take moisture so seriously that it's practically a crime.

✔️ Spools are dried in our industrial oven after production
✔️ Immediately vacuum-sealed
✔️ Packed with fresh desiccant (which you can reuse — more on that below)

This means your filament ships out crispy, dry, and print-ready, unlike that spool on Amazon that sat in a sweaty warehouse for six months.

🔧 Recommended Drying Temps & Times

If your spool has been out in the wild (aka your basement), here’s how to give it a mini spa treatment:

Material Dry Temp Dry Time
PLA / PLA Prime 55°C (131°F) 3–6 hours
PETG / PCTG Prime 65°C (149°F) 4–6 hours
ABS 80°C (176°F) 4–6 hours
ASA Prime 80°C (176°F) 4–6 hours
Nylon / PA 80°C (176°F) 8–12 hours
TPU / TPE 50°C (122°F) 4–6 hours
HIPS 65°C (149°F) 2–4 hours

Important:
If you’re drying filament in a food dehydrator, oven, or filament-drier, always preheat first — overshooting temps can warp spools faster than you can say “Nooooo!”

♻️ Reusing Desiccant: The Secret Hack

Those little pouches that come with your filament?
Don’t throw them away — they’re tiny superheroes.

✔️ Spread them on a cookie sheet
✔️ Dry at 240°F (115°C) for 1–2 hours
✔️ Let cool
✔️ Put back into your filament container

Boom — good as new.

🏅 The Final Word

Dry filament =
✨ Smoother prints
✨ Stronger layers
✨ Happier nozzles
✨ Fewer surprise failures

And remember:
Every spool from Coex3D arrives pre-dried, vacuum-sealed, and ready for action.
Because your 3D printer deserves the good stuff.

If your filament needs a refresh or you want to stock up on moisture-free material straight from the source…
